Twelve Things Tuesday: 04/21/2015

For the 2nd week in a row, something A&M will lead this list. Rightfully so, as Aggie Muster Is one of the Aggie traditions I am most proud of. A few times a year, whether it be in church, with my family or just a random moment, I am overwhelmed with emotions for one reason or another, for good and bad alike. But year after year, ever since the first Muster I ever attended in 2009, I can count on being overcome by a sense of pride, comradeship, sorrow, joy…

@ the Moment: Playlist Update

@ the Moment: Playlist Update

Back in February, I did my first musical-related post in quite sometime. I concluded that post with one of my Spotify playlists called “@ the Moment”. I keep this playlist towards the top of my list of playlists. More often than not, it’s where I throw new songs that I really have been loving, old songs that I hadn’t heard in a long time but need more of in my life and then random ones I stumble across while browsing through Spotify that I can’t imagine my day without! It’s…

Song Request Please

Song Request Please

Do you sometimes randomly start thinking about a song, then listen to it several times in a row? And later in day do you hear it on the radio? Oh my goodness, this has been happening to me so often! I can understand this happening with newer music, but the kinds of songs that usually pop in my head randomly are the country gold kind of oldies. Most recently, this was the case with “From a Jack to a King”. Yesterday, on my way to work the catchy little chorus started rolling off the…

A Voodoo Queen and Old Country Music

A Voodoo Queen and Old Country Music

This might be the most crazy, old country song I have ever heard. This is not my first time hearing this interesting tune, but I’m not lying or over-exaggerating when I say that it has come on at least four times this week. Ever since I happened to play it when I was looking for a Bobby Bare song, it has come up several times. But I guess that’s how it always happens. Down in Lou´siana where the black trees grow, lives a voodoo lady named Marie Laveau. She got…

Sing, Dance, Drink to Waylon

Sing, Dance, Drink to Waylon

Musical Monday…oh wait never mind. How about we call this Tuned-up Tuesday? I totally meant to get to this post last night before or after my softball game, but obviously either real work or entertainment got in the way. Whoops! But here the deal, Waylon Jennings is the man. Yesterday in the car, I was tuned into 104.9 FM, which is the same as 680 AM just on the FM side of things, and I realized just how often a Waylon Jennings song comes on. It’s easy to forget just…

Gruene Hall on a Sunday Evening

Gruene Hall on a Sunday Evening

Let’s get one thing straight, I will dance to anything. Country, swing, tejano, hip pop. Two-step, three-step, half-step, waltz. I’ll do the boots scoot and boogie, I’ll wobble, shoot I’ll even throw in a little cha-cha slide. I don’t hide this love for dancing at all just read a few other posts from this blog! But there is something undoubtedly pretty special about dancing on an old wooden floor to a live band on a Sunday evening. And you know what? That is just what I got to do Sunday…

Howdy to Another Monday

Howdy to Another Monday

Happy happy Monday! Looking like another beautiful Monday here in San Antonio. After such a gorgeous weekend, it was awfully hard to want to go to work this morning. Of course I’ll have to post later about my shenanigans this weekend, but that will have to wait for now. Because, right now is my Musical Monday feature! I have been working on trying to come up with a calendar for this blog so that I can stay focused and not go so long between posts. Last week my post was…

Another Day Older and Deeper in Debt

Another Day Older and Deeper in Debt

Another day older…. true. Deeper in debt…. fortunately false! Thankfully the headline is not hinting at my current misfortune but indeed one of my favorite songs. Tennessee Ernie Ford’s 1955 hit “Sixteen Tons” has been one of my favorite oldies since I first heard it. It has a catchy tune and great lyrics. When you get down to the words line by line, they are oddly applicable to many modern situations at hand today, which is why I believe this song to still be so popular to cover amongst artists….

At Thirteen: I was Reading in Church and She Was #6 on the Charts

At Thirteen: I was Reading in Church and She Was #6 on the Charts

And to think I felt nervous standing up at the lectern in church reading to two hundred or so parishioners a couple of readings?!? Its marbles compared to what she accomplished at 13! “Who is she?” You may ask.  Well I am referring to the- Tanya Tucker, hailing from the great state of Texas. What an artist. At 13, she passed on the opportunity to record “The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.” in order to record “Delta Dawn.” I think this gamble worked out in her favor in the…

I think I am in Love….with a new band!

I think I am in Love….with a new band!

Ok in no way, shape, or form, would you call them a new band. But oh they are new to me! How ever did I live my life without knowing of them???? A pure shame my 23 years of life have been up until now. Yes overstatement of the day I am sure, but I’m being serious when I say I L-O-V-E this band. And this said band is………………Drum-roll, ladies and gents………………….. The Mavericks See I told you they weren’t really a new band, but humor me, please. This whole…
