A Different Kind of “Joy to the World”

Happy Hump-day!!

A look out of my office window :)

I wanted to start off this cold, but beautiful day off right with a little throwback. And does this song not take me back or what? Ok not to 1970 when this song was released by Three Dog Night, but to my very younger years. You may laugh at that statement since I am only 23, but I’m talking about seriously single-digit-age!

I remember during the summer, hoping I could walk down and make it in time to Grandpa and Grandma’s to be able to help my Uncle Anthony feed. It’s was and still is the little things like that or getting the chance to work cattle with him that seriously made me so happy! You know you are an ag kid when you would define fun as waking up early to go feed then get all dirty and quite possibly yelled at working cows.

But back to the Joy to the World part.. One of my fondest memories would be feeding with Uncle Anthony (ok to be honest, in those days I really just followed him around and opened gates and maybe carried a bucket here and there) and him singing this crazy song about a bullfrog. I would try my damnedest to learn that song but the lyrics were so crazy. Seriously odd lyrics:

Jeremiah was a bull frog
Was a good friend of mine
I never understood a single word he said
But I helped him a-drink his wine
And he always had some mighty fine wine
Singin’
Joy to the world
All the boys and girls, now
Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea
Joy to you and me
If I were the King of the world
Tell you what I’d do
I’d throw away the cars and the bars and the wars
And make sweet love to you
Sing it now
You know I love the ladies
Love to have my fun
I’m a high night flier and a rainbow rider
And a straight-shooting son of a gun
ย I said a straight-shootin’ son of a gun

Little did I know or him for that matter, not only would I learn every word of the song but all of my cousins would too! When we get together it’s always a favorite to sing between all of us. Just picture a room with a grandpa and a grandma, their four kids and their wives, then eight grandkids singing to this crazy tune. Yep that’s why I would rather have Christmas with my family than go anywhere else in the world!

Anyhow I was reminiscing this morning and felt the need to share. And maybe I introduced you to a song you haven’t heard yet, or maybe I reminded you of a song you listened to years ago!

Hope everyone has a delightful remainder of the week. And just think you are two and a half days away from your weekend!
