Good Music Wins Out

Last night Mom and I headed into town for another paint party! Last time I went, Sydney and her boyfriend accompanied me, so naturally I looked forward to spending the evening with Mom sipping on some Malbec and exercising all of those (ok the few) creative juices I have. The night ended up being a great success. Thankfully, the rain and messy weather held off until we made it back home. I highly recommend going, at least once, to one of these studios. I have only participated in paint parties at…

A Voodoo Queen and Old Country Music

MarieLaveau_(Frank_Schneider)

This might be the most crazy, old country song I have ever heard. This is not my first time hearing this interesting tune, but I’m not lying or over-exaggerating when I say that it has come on at least four times this week. Ever since I happened to play it when I was looking for a Bobby Bare song, it has come up several times. But I guess that’s how it always happens. Down in Lou´siana where the black trees grow, lives a voodoo lady named Marie Laveau. She got…

About Me 2.0 / 27 for Twenty-seven

About Me 2.0 / 27 for Twenty-seven - sheerheart.org

It has been way too long since I worked on my About Me page. Today I was reminded of a post I did two years ago called 25 for Twenty-five. It was such a fun way to share more about myself without just babbling on. Therefore, I found it fitting to update my About Me during my birthday week. So here goes a little Q&A session: 27 for Twenty-seven: About Me What is my favorite movie, song and book? Movie: Sabrina (1954) Song: Silver Wings by Merle Haggard Book: The…

Top 5 Friday: Marty Robbins

Top 5 Friday: Marty Robbins curated by sheerheart.org

Marty Robbins. What a singer, comedian, and performer. Like I have said countless times before, I am a lover of old country music. Growing up Marty Robbins was constantly on, and lately that has only increased. He has one of my most favorite albums, Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. Top to bottom, his music is entertaining, comforting and a joy to listen to. Oddly enough, I don’t find myself dancing to too many of his songs. They are more the type to sit around a fire and listen to together, if…

Out in West Texas

Out in West Texas - pictures and stories by sheerheart.org

Holy smokes, it has been almost two years since I took a trip to West Texas. If you are fond of breath-taking sunrises and sunsets, wide open spaces and limited internet access, add West Texas to your vacation list asap. While writing my Top 5 Friday: Western Novels post, I realized I hadn’t shared many of the pictures I took on my long weekend out in Alpine and Marfa. Who knows why I didn’t get back and immediately overload y’all with them. Nonetheless, I’m here now with a couple handfuls…

Grandpa’s Girl

Grandpa's Girl - sheerheart.org

Someone once said, “A grandfather is someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart.” Eighty-four years young, and my grandpa embodies that statement to a T. If you ever wonder how I got my affinity for old country music, paperback westerns and sawdust covered dance floors, look no further than Gramps. The love he shows to all around him is admirable. So much to look up to. A dancing machine. He can stay up way longer than me, or you I’d bet. No better way to spend an…

Top 5 Friday: Max Stalling

Top 5 Friday: Max Stalling - sheerheart.org

Max Stalling. Oh Max. I’m not sure how many years it has been since my ears first heard his music, but they’ve been better off ever since. Thankfully, I have had the opportunity to see him live several times. He truly is one of the best when it comes to putting on a show. You’re not going to see fireworks blowing off the stage or him swinging on a wrecking ball. But what you will experience is good music, entertaining stories and spectacular musical talents. His music makes you smile…

Happy Summer! It’s no secret I love summer, therefore, I’m sharing my summer bucket list with you. What’s on your list of things to do this season. P.S. you have 90 more days to get them done! My list could have easily been longer, but as I mentioned in my 8 Books to Read This Summer post, I’m trying to be somewhat realistic with my goals these days. * Finish My Summer Reading List * What better place to start then my goal of completing my summer reading list. Having…

April Favorites

April 2017 Favorties

Pssstttt it’s May. April ending on a Sunday and May beginning on a Monday is pretty darn sneaky. Driving to work I knew the date, but sure enough, the first chance I get to write the date down, I’m beginning to pen “April”. Never fails. April was yet another good one. A wedding, plenty of parties, family gatherings, good eats, good reading, kinda sums it up. But to sum it up further, I’m going to share some of my favorites from the month of April. Favorite Book To be fair, Jubal…

Top 5 Friday: Guy Clark

Top 5 Friday: Guy Clark

Almost a year ago, Guy Clark passed away. Unfortunately, it took him dying, for me to ever look his music up. Truly, I didn’t know who he was before then. But thankfully, after his passing I stumbled onto an online post sharing some of his music. And then for several months straight, I listened to nothing else. Nothing. About that time, I found myself at a crossroad of sorts. Not happy with work, not thrilled with how certain things had worked out personally and really just contemplating how life was supposed to…
